God doesn’t sweat your estrangement
Sometimes we’re out of touch with God in a conscious sense. We’ll be busying ourselves with our daily routine and God won’t be on the mind as much as normal. That doesn’t mean that God isn’t with us or necessarily moving through us. No doubt we will often be moving with compassion and love to be a positive force in other peoples’ lives. The good that comes from that love is the product of God’s will through us as a conduit.
However, sometimes we will get to a point of estrangement. Out of touch for a period of time that might even be relatively short, we will feel the absence of that contact. Sometimes these periods of estrangement will be quite long, through absent mindedness or even wilful purpose. We may find our way back through the necessity of hardship, or the realisation of neglect. Whatever the reason, whatever the time frame, we all know the feeling, and we’ve all been there in various ways.
It’s important to feel you can re-establish that connection with confidence. Rather than feel you have to go back with cap in hand and chastened, go back in joy knowing that you will be welcomed with open arms. The biggest step of reproach is making the choice to reconnect. God is here to serve your best interests and those interests aren’t served by a proverbial look at the watch and a demeanor that asks ‘Where have you been?’ In fact, in order to keep the lines open for you to feel free to come back next time you’re estranged, it’s in God’s best interest to make ending the separation as easy and judgement free as possible.
The ease of this connection is one of the means that God underscores the patient love that God tries so hard to instill in us. God realises the ways of the world and our individual weaknesses. God realises how these two factors can overwhelm us in the course of busy lives. You are already rising above yourself to acknowledge these two things and seek guidance for them. You need not feel you have to subject yourself to self castigation because you did not seek that guidance sooner. Understanding this may also help you be a better example of this principle to others.
